ARANCINI (Sicily)

Arancini are a typical Sicilian dish. They are made of rice, meat, peas, and caciocavallo cheese. They are cone-shaped to symbolize the volcano Mount Etna.

They date back to the Middle Ages with the Arabs who consumed a lot of rice and saffron. Breading, however, came with Frederick II of Swabia, was considered a take away food because the bread outside was used to store rice. They were originally white but from 1852 tomato was added to rice; arancini are the typical food of the feast of santa Lucia. This food is typical especially in Sicily even if today it is eaten everywhere. it’s very GOOOD!!
